Affiliates and Sponsors

Affiliating: it's what you're here for. There are hundreds of sponsors out there, waiting for you to advertise their sites for them. You just have to decide who to go with, and sign up.

Affiliates track which surfers come from you via a code located in the URL. So instead of you simply sending someone to www.sponsor.com , you send them to www.sponsor.com/referrerid#67700/ibill or something similar. (Don't try that URL, I just made it up as an example).

Affiliating is relatively simple. You go to a sponsor's site, read what they have to say and check out their sites. Then you sign up, providing your name, address, email address and the URL of your site. As a newbie, you still need to have a site URL ready to put on the sponsor's join up page, which is why I recommend you put up a draft version of your site on a freehost before you look at getting sponsors. That way you've got something to put in the URL field, and you can change it later.

Remember to write down all the passwords you use. You can make up a Word document with all of them, but it's very handy to have a hard copy next to your computer for quick reference. Use an exercise book or a folder.

Paysites tend to be run within a larger stable of sites. Thus, to use an example, Kara's Adult Playground and Smut Erotica are separate paysites catering to separate niches, however they are both run by the same people - known as Maximum Cash. One of the cool thing about these major sponsors is you can sign up only once, and you then receive the code and the banners to advertise a large number of sites. It can save a lot of time.

Indeed, you may only need to sign up for one or two sponsors and that's all you need. If you're thinking of doing this, I recommend Maximum Cash and Porn Megabucks. They are both well established sponsors with a large number of sites and proven track records. They pay well, and their sites convert well.

Methods of Payment

There are three basic methods of payment. They are:

Per Unique Click. This is where you are paid a small amount e.g. 10c for each new person that clicks on your ad. These programs often have performance requirements - there has to be a signup for every 100 people that click, for example. Click-throughs are good if you get a lot of passing traffic.

Per Signup. This is where the sponsor pays you a set amount each time a surfer signs up, and it's a once-off payment. The surfer may continue to pay a monthly fee to access the paysite, but you don't get any commission for that. Per Signup equals higher payouts in the short term.

Recurring Partnership. This is where the sponsor pays you a certain percentage of the surfer's money, starting when they signup and continuing for as long as they are members of the site. This is a nice way of getting paid - the cheques can keep coming in months after the initial signup. Recurring returns smaller payouts in the short term, but can build to become a major money-maker.

On top of these methods, some sponsors are now using dialers. Dialers are programs that allow the surfer to pay for their membership through the phone instead of credit cards. A small piece of software disconnects their ISP and reconnects the phone to a pay-per-minute service, similar to phone sex lines. Dialers are controversial because some surfers don’t read the fine print or don’t hang up when they’re finished. If your sponsor is using dialers, you will receive a percentage of this profit.

You can also be paid for promoting porn through email. Sponsors can pay around 75c for each person who signs up for porn in their email.

Another method of getting porn to the consumer is via "for Free" programs, such as Pink4Free. These work by getting the surfer to fill out a survey, or sell their personal information in exchange for porn. You then get a small commission for referring them.

Webmaster Referrals

Sponsors also pay other webmasters for signing up new people. Thus, if you sign up after being recommended by me here, I get between 5 and 10% of whatever sales you make. Remember, this money DOES NOT come out of your commission - the sponsor pays me separately, so please don't think I'm trying to fool you out of your own money when I refer you. Some sponsors only ask that you add the referrer code to the join form, so its a matter of courtesy to include it.

In the table below I'm going to list some good sponsors. The ones in bold are those that will give me a webmaster referral bonus, so naturally I'm hoping you'll sign up with them. This way I can earn money for creating this site.

As mentioned in the sidebar, I really recommend Porn Megabucks, MaxCash, Cybererotica, OutbackCash and WEGCash as sponsors. They have never failed to pay me, and - more importantly - surfers actually buy their product. So you won't be wasting time if you sign up with them.

Ads, Text and Banners

Two years ago, surfers were far more likely to click on a banner ad than they are now. Everyone has become immune to them, and ignores them unless they really catch the eye. This is why most sponsors recommend adding text underneath the banner, to add to the impact. Surfers find it harder to ignore text - there may be something of interest in it. Another reason to add text is because it loads faster. The surfer can be reading the text and becoming interested while the ad loads. So study what other people are writing, and always make sure your ad says something that catches the surfer's curiosity. You may want to point out an aspect of a paysite that makes it unique, or perhaps provide a "mini-review" offering your honest opinion on why someone should visit the site.

Linklists are increasingly insisting that you only place a maximum of 3 banners on each page. I recommend that you follow this advice, if only in the interest of making more money. A surfer is more likely to pay attention to one or two crotch-grabbing ads, rather than ignoring a page full of flashing, blaring banners.
